Taking the new D7000 (post coming) out for a test drive, Val and I stopped by Phipps Conservatory. During this last long haul of winter, nothing feels better than getting to take your coat off and wander around “outside”. I regret not taking advantage of my free admission during my CMU years more often. It would have been very easy to bring my text books and study there instead of a frigid, barren dorm room.
We were lucky enough to catch the Orchid and Bonsai show. I never realized how much I enjoyed Orchids, and despite being a bit challenging to grow, I’m now convinced that once I get my own place, a small indoor botanical display is going to be in order.
Here are some of the best D7000 shots I captured.
Nice shots. Apparently, flowers are really interesting subjects for UV photography if you don’t find that kind of thing gimmicky.
In regards to the UV photography of flowers – besides looking neat in a photograph, bees see flowers in the UV end of the spectrum. The different markings you’ll see guide bees to the nectar source in the flower, thus helping the plant reproduce.
